Talent & Admin Lead | Nairobi, Kenya – Full Time

Factor[e] Ventures is a global impact investment firm with offices in Nairobi, Kenya, Fort Collins, Colorado, and
London, UK. Factor[e] identifies, validates, de-risks, and invests in highly-scalable, socially meaningful technology ventures that can help drive development through access to energy, agriculture, mobility, and smart infrastructure. To enhance Factor[e] Ventures impact, Factor[e]’s new Venture Studio will do two things – build new companies from scratch in these sectors and provide post-investment support to our growing portfolio.

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled Talent & Admin Lead to assist the Chief Venture Builder and other Partners to
build, motivate and support our growing team. More specifically, this role has three components:

  • – Talent – culture, recruiting & HR support for the platform
  • – Admin & Systems
  • – Special Projects

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will have experience working in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and global company. You will have to be well-organized, have great people and project management skills. This position will be based in the Factor[e] office in Nairobi, Kenya, and will work closely with our team, portfolio companies, and global offices. At times, this role will require different working hours to support the team (i.e. this may require working from 10am EAT – 8pm EAT 1 or 2 days a week to support evening events or team members in other parts of the world.

Responsibilities

  • – Talent Leadership & Execution
    • – Create strong team culture across the Factor[e] Platform
      • – Create strong team culture by codifying our culture, ensuring we know and live team values, and organizing team building activities.
      • – Design and oversee our performance management systems, formal mid-year and annual reviews, and standardized 1-1 manager activities.
      • – Identify and roll out learning and development tools or programs for the Factor[e] Team.
    • – Recruit new talent for the Platform, Factor[e] Ventures and the Venture Studio
      • – Maintain, update, and drive Factor[e] recruiting processes and best practices
      • – Update and improve Factor[e]’s DEI practices to ensure we build a diverse and inclusive team
      • – Set up and maintain recruiting partnerships with 2-3 recruiters (with support of Partner)
    • – Human Resource Management
      • – Support onboarding and administration activities for new hires
      • – Set up and maintain HR systems like Bamboo
  • – Administration Management
    • – Evaluate, select & roll out systems (slack, CRMs, project planning, etc…) for the Factor[e] Platform
    • – Organize key Factor[e] Platform events such as major press events, events with portfolio companies, partners, investors, and team members
    • – Manage Admin Assistant
      • – Oversee Admin to do calendaring and expense reports for Partners or other team members.
        Ensure Admin is supported to manage an active calendar of appointments, especially large
        team meetings, appointments with visitors, and complex scheduling for Partners
      • – Oversee Admin’s management of procurement and petty cash. Approve large expenses and
        make sure good procurement and office management processes are in place.
  • – Special Project Management
    • – Support special projects designed to achieve the organisation’s strategic goal – create project plan with Partner, execute plan and keep Partner up to date on progress, risks and completion as needed/appropriate. Some special projects could include for example:
      • – Build an inspiring and collaborative Factor[e] office in Nairobi with spaces for the investment team, a prototyping lab and venture teams to build new companies
      • – Work with the Sr. Platform Director to create a monthly newsletter or WhatsApp updates for our portfolio and CEOs to connect them with opportunities, information and ideas to grow their companies

Qualifications

  • – 5+ years of working on diverse range of projects in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • – Passion for talent and experience hiring, supporting and growing talent. 3 years of HR or Talent experience, especially experience recruiting and retaining great talent in fast-growing companies, is a plus, but not required for strong candidates.
  • – Organised and able to keep track of competing tasks and priorities.
  • – Project management – Proven ability to effectively manage different aspects of a project.
  • – Stakeholder relations & management – Excellent people skills, ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • – Problem solver – Ability to break down and simplify ambiguous problems into executable milestones & actions. Creative and proactive in how challenges are faced.
  • – Detail-oriented – You are very careful, and triple-check important documents, emails, presentations etc.
  • – Growth mindset – You are always willing to seek and receive feedback and see it as an opportunity for growth
